Billy’s hard work finally paid off in May as a magical new installation delighted residents living with dementia at a care home in Eastbourne.

The Tovertafel interactive ‘Magic Table’ debuted at Milton Grange, giving residents the chance to have some fun with the vibrant games and interact socially.

It was made possible after Billy climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the biggest mountain in Africa, to raise over £6000 to cover the cost.

Tovertafel uses pioneering technology to stimulate people with dementia to move more and interact socially.

Designed specifically for people living with mid-to-late stage dementia, we were excited to see the people of Milton Grange get their hands on it for the first time.

It was fantastic to see residents interact with the table and each other, with family members commenting how it immediately seemed to bring them out of their shell.

Manager Janice Phillips said “The table has made a difference to the lives of a lot of our clients that attend the day centre and have dementia.”

The Tovertafel is a little box that is mounted on the ceiling. Inside the box is a high-quality projector, infrared sensors, speaker, and processor that work together to project the games onto the table.

Because the colourful objects respond to hand and arm movements, residents get to play with the light itself in an interactive way.

We were proud to support Billy on his trek to raise money for a such a worthy cause to help the people of Milton Grange.
