Chequers’ History & Family Tree

Chequers is a private family run company based in South London. The business was formed by brothers, Gary and Paul Jeal, in 1987; the company was originally formed as a window cleaning business and very quickly moved into building maintenance and builder’s cleans.

Our first contract for cleaning and grounds maintenance was secured in our first year of trading for a residential block of flats managed by Playfield Management. Many more followed and we soon secured a contract with Radcliffe Housing Association, a contract which we still retain today. We now specialise in estate cleaning and support services and have an impressive and enviable client portfolio.

Following substantial growth of the business, Gary & Paul’s sister Kate Ward joined the company in 1993 as Head of Sales and Marketing. In 1996 we acquired a small local commercial cleaning business which we integrated into our portfolio and this was to be the springboard for our growth.

Whilst increasing our commercial and estate cleaning contracts throughout the late end of the 1990′s we began working towards utilising our experience within educational cleaning. In 2000 we were awarded our first school contract at Brindishe Primary School in Lewisham and we are proud to still have a continued successful relationship with them. Since 2000 we have increased our educational cleaning portfolio and now supply services to over 50 nurseries, schools and colleges.

A specialist building and maintenance division was formed in 2002 following a number of requests from multiple clients for Chequers to offer additional support in conjunction with our cleaning services.

In 2008 we received a Best of Borough Award which was swiftly followed by our 2009 RBS South London Business Award, many more have followed and no doubt there will be many more to come as we approach the future with the same ambition and attention to detail as Paul and Gary had in 1987.
